It is possible to use these symbols as an oracle in several different ways.
1. Sabian Oracle - Firstly centre yourself, then ask your question, and then call up the Sabian Oracle. This will pick one of the symbols at random.
2. Degree Oracles - These are based on the position of a planet or chart angle at the time the question is asked. Note, therefore that these symbols are not random, but are based on the cyclical motion of these astrological points through the degrees of the zodiac. The sun moves about 1 degree per day, so its symbol changes roughly once per day, whereas the moon moves about 13 degrees per day, so its symbol changes roughly once every two hours. The ascendant and midheaven pass through the entire zodiac each day, so their symbols change roughly once every 4 minutes. In order to decide which astrological point to use, take into account the symbolism of that point. For example, when asking questions about emotional issues you could choose the moon. When asking about career matters you could choose the midheaven, etc.

This Symbol shows the spirit of giving without thought of reward and the gathering together of people who endeavor to bring goodness and light to the community. This Symbol speaks of children having to tread carefully and watchfully. Situations are likely to come up where you may not know exactly what to do and you probably have to make the most of challenging situations. If you feel like you're on "thin ice" you may have to tread carefully, planning each step as you go and listening for cracks the entire time. If you don't acknowledge changes and adjust yourself accordingly you may be at a disadvantage. Be wary of blindly rushing into anything - you may get to the point where you can't safely return to where you began. If, however, you set out to have fun while being mindful of your environment, this could be a fun filled time with lots of shared experiences with good friends.

This Symbol speaks of enjoying of having the finer things in life; luxury, big estates, good food, beautiful gardens, a fabulous social life and mixing with the elite of society. This implies enjoying the rewards of self confidence and authority that you and others have developed and achieved. This does not make you greater or better than others, but the work you've done entitles you to a little luxury, comfort and prestige. Are you relaxed and comfortable enough to be able to sit back and join in with others and enjoy it all?

1ST DEGREE OF LEO
UNDER EMOTIONAL STRESS, BLOOD RUSHES TO A PERSON’S HEAD
This Symbol implies that emotions in the form of anger or passion can get in the way of rational responses and being able to move ahead purposefully. Sometimes it feels like almost nothing can be done; being immobilized with neither mental nor physical control. It won't last forever; it will pass and resistance can just make some situations worse. The trick is to wait until all the available data comes through before making decisions or moves as premature reactions can lead to embarrassing back downs. Thinking things through when calm descends again will help sort things out.
Difficulty containing emotional reactions. Becoming fired-up about something. Charging off in all directions at once. Thinking with the head and not the heart. Blood pressure.

This Symbol shows someone who is young or inexperienced but is more possessed of greatness than might at first be apparent. Like the woman nursing this child, being able to recognize brilliance, truth and beauty in others, or in your own self, can bring many rewards. There is often the sense that someone’s an ‘old soul’, even though they’re young in their years or their experience; they are ahead of their time or have talents beyond the norm. Dane Rudhyar said this degree is: 'The promise to all men that God may take birth within their souls.' Good nourishment and care will nourish this great potential.

VENETIAN GONDOLIERS IN A SERENADE
This Symbol speaks of the pleasure of romantic fantasy and the ability to see behind the charades that people often play. Romance, singing, being serenaded: although a cliché in its form, it is still often special for the individual. This speaks of the ability to be able to break out from the constraints of social expectation and to let yourself float on the pleasure of romance. This is about finding ways to relate that satisfy emotional requirements. This is not exactly a time for seriousness, however don't be fooled by an insincere charade.
Romantic fantasy. Emotional manipulation. Singing and music. Performances. Public speaking. Impressing people with the joy, romance and pleasure of fun. Winning people.
The Caution: Insincere charade masking what's real. Retreating into one's self. Saying what others want in order to get the right response. Superficial displays. Misplaced trust.
SATURN
20TH DEGREE OF GEMINI
A CAFETERIA WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF CHOICES
This Symbol shows the wide range of nourishment, opportunity and the ability to have things in our modern world. There are so many choices but each choice has its price, so be careful what you choose. Each will nourish you, but some things are far more nourishing and sustaining than others. However, there is so much on display and available that if you don't like your first choice you can get something else - that is if you can afford it. Take what you need, enjoy it and realize the abundance that's happening in your life. Make sure that what you get is good quality as many things are not.
Overwhelming alternatives. Having one's hungers satisfied versus satiation. Everything provided. Self-service. Salivating over what's on display. Overweight. Credit cards.
The Caution: Taking everything you can regardless of needs. Inability to make decisions. So many choices. Things so near, but so far. Inability to satisfy. Being stuffed with stuff.
URANUS
29TH DEGREE OF AQUARIUS
A BUTTERFLY EMERGING FROM A CHRYSALIS
This Symbol shows the ability, or the necessity, of growing, expanding, escaping restrictions and evolving into a more expansive sense of self with bigger and better potentials. At times in your life, often crossroads or major turning points, you are likely to be able to realize many of your latent, but promising, potentials. Like an awakening, you are suddenly able to do something that truly reflects you and who you strive to be. This emergence builds for some time; a metamorphosis takes place. Ensure that you take a moment to adjust to new developments before taking flight.

11TH DEGREE OF AQUARIUS
DURING A SILENT HOUR, A PERSON RECEIVES A NEW INSPIRATION WHICH MAY CHANGE THEIR LIFE
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to notice those moments of “Inspiration” that come through you and act to move, inspire, propel or goad you into changing your life. Taking time out, having a “Silent Hour”, even if it’s just 5 minutes, can regularly bring you new ideas, solutions and breakthrough realizations. At times in your life, you could find that despite racking your brain there has been no rational guidance. Slowing down and opening up to the message of your inner inspiration can bring huge shifts in your life. The rational mind can be noisy and interfere with the flow of intuition. A new inspiration is coming, one that may change your life. Be still and listen!

This degree shows the ability, and the necessity, of being able to rise up after difficulties in one’s life, somewhat like the Phoenix rising from the ashes. One needs to maintain hope and draw together with others who share a sense of faith in the future and in community and the goodness of life. There will be times of spiritual rebirth where you can rise above the failings of the past into new beginnings. Coming out of doubt and despair can lead to a new sense of love, faith and compassion. Join with others in a spirit of joy. There's a need for unwavering faith in communal spiritual values.
Performing deeds with reverence. Communal expressions of faith. Peace rallies. Revivals. The need for faith in a bright future. Devotion. Worship. The phoenix rising from the ashes.
The Caution: Obsession with the ceremony rather than the purpose or ideal. Feeling unable to lift one's spirits. Disillusionment and loss of vision. Holidays with no meaning.
CHIRON
7TH DEGREE OF CAPRICORN
A VEILED PROPHET SPEAKS, SEIZED BY THE POWER OF A GOD
This degree implies the ability, or the need, to disseminate information or knowledge. It is coming through the “Veiled Prophet”; there are messages and it seems they are coming from a deep source, or, from a place of authority. Still, it can be difficult to know whether it’s always the truth that is being spoken or that’s coming through you. Look carefully for the signs - is it truth that you are being fed? With such power in one's words, we have to be careful about what we say as well as what we hear. This energy can be used for the good of all involved, or it can just lead people astray. Something to watch out for is blind acceptance of things you see or hear. This is a very powerful degree.

This Symbol implies being able to find someone to communicate with, even when you’re in what might feel like alien territory. You may feel that you are often surrounded by people who don’t understand you or even suspect your ways of doing things or your motives. Finding someone of like mind or feeling will help you feel more comfortable and secure. Thinking and speaking in your native tongue or a language that reflects your thoughts and beliefs will bring greater ease and comfort. Sharing mutual thoughts can help transcend feelings of alienation and can lead to new understanding.

The Caution: Not adapting to the world around you. Being with people who don't share philosophies or understanding. Not communicating on your own level. Judging others as different.
THE ASCENDANT
26TH DEGREE OF AQUARIUS
A GARAGE MAN TESTING A CAR'S BATTERY WITH A HYDROMETER
This Symbol shows the ability, or the need, to be able to pick up problems, to diagnose what might be wrong whether it’s mechanically, physically, spiritually or emotionally. The “Car” can be a car, or it can be your body; your earthly vehicle, and it may need some “Testing” to see how it’s coping with life’s pressures. You may need to use some type of gauge on your emotional reactions. There is often a need to take a more intuitive or psychic approach to problems, although an objective or inventive view will also bring results. Figure out any malfunctions so your life can proceed in a smoother, more efficient manner. Performing necessary checks and balances to ensure your life is working properly are part of the everyday maintenance of society.
Testing vehicles for roadworthiness. Breakdowns and the need for repair. The need for good batteries or to have them charged. Oil, petrol, grease. Finding out what's wrong.
The Caution: Causing distress by constantly analyzing things. Bad health. Lack of water or not looking after one's self. Breakdowns from lack of care. Missing vital signals.
THE MIDHEAVEN
11TH DEGREE OF SAGITTARIUS
IN THE LEFT SECTION OF AN ARCHAIC TEMPLE, A LAMP BURNS IN A CONTAINER SHAPED LIKE A HUMAN BODY
This Symbol implies the need or the necessity of seeing the body as being ones “Temple”; something to be honored and given respect, exercise and good nutrition. It also pictures the need for linking the spirit and the body. Logic is not always involved in this equation – this mostly speaks of emotions, spirit and physicality. Sometimes we need to remember to be 'in our bodies' and this shows the rewards that can come from regarding our body as our temple. However, if taken too seriously, one can forget to nourish their minds, preferring to concentrate on physical attributes and forgetting about other possibilities.
Connecting the left and right sides. Yoga. Grounding reality. Working out. Sexuality. Realizing that body and spirit are one. Sport and its physical rewards. Metabolic rates.
The Caution: Being caught up in the illusion of the "physical self". Worshipping the physical body at the expense of the intellect, psyche or spirit. One’s fire going out.
